Overview
EUCRAW records and displays telemetry from an electric unicycle over Bluetooth Low Energy — speed, battery, temperatures, currents — and stores each ride on your phone so you can review it later.
There is no EUCRAW account, no EUCRAW server, and no backend that ride data is sent to. Everything the app records stays on your device unless you explicitly share or export it.
Data Collection
The app does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal information. Specifically:
- No account — there is nothing to sign up for or log in to
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
- No advertising SDKs
- No ride, location, or wheel data is uploaded anywhere
Data Stored on Your Device
All of the following is stored locally and is removed when you uninstall the app:
- Ride history — telemetry samples, trip summaries and statistics, in a local database
- RAW captures — the unmodified Bluetooth frames received from the wheel, kept so a ride can be replayed and re-analysed
- GPS traces — recorded alongside a ride when location permission is granted, used for route, distance and GPS speed
- Garage entries — the wheels you save: name, model, Bluetooth address, battery setup, and any photo you attach. Photos are written to app-internal storage
- Preferences — dial layouts, theme, units, alert thresholds
- Crash reports — written to app-internal storage so a crash can be inspected in-app. They are never sent anywhere automatically
- Diagnostic logs — if you enable connection logging, a plain-text log is written to your device's Downloads folder, where it is yours to read or delete
When the App Uses the Network
The app uses the network for one thing only: drawing maps. No ride data is sent.
When you open a map, the app requests map imagery from the tile provider you have selected — OpenFreeMap, CARTO, OpenTopoMap, CyclOSM, or Esri. As with any map in any app, that provider receives your IP address and the coordinates of the map area being drawn, which is what allows it to return the right tiles. Your recorded route is never uploaded — it is drawn on your device, on top of the tiles. Each provider's own privacy policy governs those requests. If you never open a map, no tiles are requested.
Sharing and Export
Exporting or sharing a ride, a capture, or a crash report is always something you start. The app hands the file to whichever app you choose through Android's standard share sheet; where it goes after that is governed by that app.
Android Backup
The app permits Android's built-in backup. If you have device backup switched on in your Google account settings, your app data may be included in that backup under the terms of Google's backup service. You can exclude the app in your device settings.
Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth (scan, connect) | Find your wheel and receive its telemetry. This is the app's core function |
| Location — precise | Required by Android for Bluetooth scanning, and used to record GPS speed and route |
| Location — background (optional) | Lets a ride keep recording when started from the background, for example after an automatic reconnect. Declining it leaves rides started in the app fully functional |
| Camera (optional) | Take a photo of your wheel for the garage. Declining it leaves the gallery picker working |
| Notifications | Show the ongoing ride notification and wheel alerts |
| Foreground service (connected device, location) | Keep logging while the screen is off or another app is in front |
| Ignore battery optimisations (optional) | Stop the system throttling the Bluetooth connection mid-ride |
| Internet | Map tiles |
| Storage (Android 12 and below) | Read and write capture files on older Android versions |
Location deserves a specific note: Android requires location permission for Bluetooth scanning even when an app has no interest in where you are. EUCRAW uses it for both — the scan requirement and, when you record a ride, your route and GPS speed. That location data is written to your device and to nothing else.
Third-Party Services
The app bundles no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only third parties it contacts are the map tile providers listed above, and only while a map is on screen.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
